Lucy Garcia

I am a fourth year teacher in the LAUSD, still working on my full credential. I taught in the countryside of the Dominican Republic for two and a half years before that. And before that I had just graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA. Do the math! That makes me something less than thirty, right? Actually I'm part of that magnificent group of people who went back to college in middle age. Now I'm 54, honored and delighted to be in the position to teach science to young people in high school. I am interested in ecology, the relatively new field of evolutionary psychology (when it is good science, not adaptive storytelling) and just as a hobby any news about nanotechnology. I am deeply concerned about issues of social justice, particularly closing the achievement gap.
